Model for efficient operations obtained from business life

In accordance with its ideology, borrowed from the business world, the main principle for the activities of the Clean Baltic Sea projects is to select targets where the least cost achieves the largest possible positive impact on the environment. The projects are funded through donations which are collected through the Clean Sea fund. Unused capital is securely invested in bonds, certificates of deposit, fixed-income funds and other low-risk income-creating instruments.

The targets of the Clean Baltic Sea projects are chosen with the help of top experts in the field and, with regard to eutrophication projects, now also by application. The selection of all projects is steered by the strategic pillars of our activities:

  • Measurable effects
  • Getting results fast
  • Cost-efficient action
  • A limited and manageable target area
  • Concrete action

While approving projects and project targets, the sufficiency of Foundation funds in relation to earlier commitments is taken into account. With regard to new projects, the survey and preparation work is focused on projects preventing eutrophication, but other cost-effective project ideas beneficial to the condition of the Baltic Sea will be considered.
